Welcome back to our Employee Spotlight series. This is our special corner where we get to meet the amazing people who make up Oakleaf. Today, we’re chatting out with Noora Binder, our HR Generalist. Read on to learn more about her role at Oakleaf and life outside of work.
Q: How long have you been with Oakleaf, and what is your title?
A: I’ve been with Oakleaf for two years as an HR Generalist.
Q: Can you describe what your role entails? What does a typical day look like for you?
A: My day consists of a variety of interesting tasks including onboarding new hires, handling payroll, administering benefits, and much more.
Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Oakleaf?
A: What I like most about Oakleaf is the team, the interesting nature of the work, and the vast learning opportunities the company provides.
Q: What has been your proudest accomplishment at Oakleaf?
A: There are several, but what impacts us daily are our technical and communication skills, and the fact that we can seamlessly hire and onboard new team members fully remotely from across the country.
Q: What would you say to someone considering a career at Oakleaf?
A: Oakleaf is a great company to be a part of, you’ll meet and work with talented and ambitious professionals. We offer great benefits and a healthy work-life balance.
Q: What is your motto or personal mantra?
A: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
Q: If you weren’t in HR, what would your career be?
A: Before HR, I was a Finance/Business Controller. I love working with people and numbers, so if I weren’t in HR, I’d likely be in finance again.
Q: Before working at Oakleaf, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve had?
A: I was a Controller at a multinational conglomerate.
Q: How has Oakleaf helped you in your career development?
A: Oakleaf provides training and development opportunities. I have participated in Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) professional training courses, and my role has allowed me to learn new systems and technologies in HR and Talent Acquisition.
Q: How would you describe Oakleaf in three words?
A: Professional, innovative, rewarding.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A: I love to travel, take on interior design projects, and watch NHL.
Q: Where is your hometown?
A: I’m from Alexandria, VA, but having lived in four different countries in Europe, I still feel connected to some of my former hometowns.
Q: What drew you to Oakleaf originally, and how has it changed since?
A: Initially, it was the job posting that felt right for me. Once I joined, I felt connected to and appreciated by my colleagues. I’ve had the opportunity to be part of a successful team and work on interesting projects. We also make it a point to meet with our colleagues outside of work during company’s quarterly happy hours, summer and holiday parties which is fantastic.
Q: How do you stay motivated at work?
A: Having clear goals keeps me driven. Plus, the nature of my work is in itself motivating.
